About StudioT3D Volumetric Capture

In Studio 2, the 4DViews Holosys system captures high quality volumetric video for a range of applications, including AR, VR and MR.

We also offer optical tracking with an OptiTrack system, and markerless tracking via Theia Markerless and Captury, all in the same studio.

What is Volumetric Capture?

Volumetric Capture (often called "volcap" or sometimes "volume capture") is a content creation method employing the use of a high definition camera array positioned around a volume to record 3D video.

Unlike traditional capture methods that rely on computer generated 3D avatars, volumetric video realistically records a subjects' movements and textures simultaneously.

In collaboration with Guildhall School of Music & Drama, StudioT3D has become the United Kingdom's latest 4DViews Holosys Volumetric Capture Studio.

How does Volumetric Capture work?

Inside Studio 2 at StudioT3D, a 9-metre diameter truss supports 48 4DViews Holosys Cameras.

The studio accommodates up to three individuals who can be captured within the optimal 3-metre diameter tracking area at the volume's centre.

Props, clothing, costumes and even elements such as bubbles and fire can all be captured simultaneously by the cameras which are positioned in varying heights around the volume.

These multiple angles allow us to generate a high quality capture of all actions occurring within the volume, producing a fully interactive 3D video, viewable from any perspective.
